Attention all ex- multi-image slideshow
producers!
While in a nostalgic mood, you may have already found my webpage, stevenmichelsen.com/AVL, wherein I catalog a fair percentage of the hardware that Audio Visual Laboratories created for the A/V industry from the mid ‘70s to mid ‘90. In addition to the webpage I have also collected a cache of multi-image hardware, mostly from "donations" from rental houses that were more than happy to "make room in their warehouse". At this point I have enough gear to stage a 30 projector show, with plenty of backups! Recently I have met several people with contacts at museums and galleries who may be interested in presenting a legacy multi image piece, under the banner of "visual immersive media in the age of analog", or "obsolete media tech", or some such. Here's my intention: to find someone (like you) with a multi image module, complete with slides and tape, sitting on their shelves, in storage, in a box in the basement, wherever - either in trays or in sleeves. I would get the show running on my rig, create a video showing the setup, the hardware, and the show itself running. I would give this video to my museum-world contacts, and ask them to hunt down a venue that would be interested in displaying the show. Then, pack up the hardware and run the show! Yes, this is my idea of fun. My main goal in all this is to expose the medium to folks that may have never seen it, or even knew such a thing even existed. Come to think of it, most people back in the '80s never saw a multi-image show, much less now. I think it's time to give the medium some air. If you've got a show squirreled away somewhere and would be amenable to sell/give/lend it to me to further my pursuit, please contact me at stevenmichelsen@gmail.com. When I get it running I will capture it to video and get it to you. If you don't have any shows tucked away but think you know of someone else that might, please pass the link to this page along. Addendum, February 2024: Since I wrote this page a few years ago, I have had great luck attracting some fantastic producers and now have a library of their work on my multi-image youtube channel, AV Archaeology. As of this date (Feb 2024) I have dozens more modules standing by to capture - much to do. Please take a look! If you have some multi-image shows that deserve to be seen again after all this time, get in touch! Addendum, April, 2024: I am now able to project and capture shows programmed with ARION programming gear in addition to AVL shows - as long as the showtape has the MATE-TRAC data on one audio channel to drive the slides. I am now set up with SPCs as well as Arion dissolve units, as needed. Thanks, Steve |
